FSC & SFI Certifications

General Converting, Inc. is pleased to announce that it has received dual Chain of Custody (COC) certification with the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI).
Over the past few years, many companies of the folding carton industry have obtained COC certifications with either FSC or SFI though most have not obtained certification with both. Robert Ruebenson, President of General Converting, explained why his company sought certification from both organization. "Both FSC & SFI were created to ensure that practices for harvesting wood are sustainable and protect the natural resources within our forests. The origins of the FSC & SFI programs may differ and have different processes for developing their standards, we don't perceive a single difference between the two programs in terms of their sustainability and protecting the resources objectives. Therefore, dual certification enables us to offer our customers a broader selection of certified FSC or SFI paper than if we only were to conform to one program or the other."
