Eco-Friendly Packaging
From the beginning, GCI has taken an eco-friendly approach to developing our business and practicing our craft. Today, what’s commonly called green packaging is in huge demand. In some cases it is even being insisted upon by major retailers.
Eco-friendly packaging has become not just a matter of preference, but a business imperative. We are ready to offer our customers a range of alternatives that are friendlier to the environment. We will work with you on your particular project, taking into account your resources and special requirements, and help make your packaging and displays as green as possible.
Among the environmentally-friendly options we offer are:
100% Recycled Board Our 100% recycled board contains 65% pre-consumer content and 35% post-consumer content. Choosing to have products packaged in 100% recycled board is a great way to meet consumers’ rising expectations for environmentally responsible packaging.
Soy-Based Inks Our soy-based inks are bio-degradable. They are derived from 100% natural and renewable oils and are an excellent and eco-friendly alternative to solvent-based inks.
Aqueous Coatings These water-based protective coatings are used to provide a high gloss surface, protecting the surface from fingerprints, dirt, smudges, and scratching. They make an excellent, biodegradable and eco-friendly alternative to conventional varnishes.
Minimizing Carton Size GCI's design experts can work with you to deliver maximum packaging and display performance while minimizing the amount of material actually used in the carton. By maximizing material usage in a manner custom-configured for your application, we minimize material waste. Aside from benefiting the environment, this can also have benefits in terms of reducing shipping costs and minimizing expenses related to waste and void/fill expenses.
Maximizing Skid Usage Again, in a solution custom made to suit your specific project, GCI can work to design a skid configuration that minimizes carbon impact by maximizing the use of space on each skid. Maximizing skid use means that fewer skids need to be used, saving space, weight, fuel use, shipping expense and carbon impact. It's another way in which GCI's close and personal attention to your project, from design to delivery, can pay off for you. And in this case it pays off for the environment as well.
In addition, there's an eco-friendly perk you don't even need to sign up for. It's built-in: Every carton made in our plant is manufactured with 100% renewable and pollution-free energy (wind-power). That's right: all of the energy used in our plant now comes from wind-generated sources.
